Social media sentiment and forced migration narratives
This project explores popular sentiment regarding forced migration and refugee resettlement across the world with a focus on the period 2010-present. While the politics of migration is often focused on events like elections and crises, doing so can obscure the underlying conditions and cultural environments that create moments of apparent rupture. We will study the range of attitudes and perspectives on migration, doing so at multiple scales, utilizing the power of the tools in the Storywrangler platform to examine the narratives that circulate at the international, national, and local levels regarding refugees, humanitarian action, and responsibilities.
