SOCKS tools depend on n-gram analysis over specific corpora. The claim that SOCKS tools can meaningfully contribute to and unify disparate “Narrative X” fields depends on there being a common account of what a story or a narrative explanation is, such that stories and narratives can be meaningfully analyzed in terms of properties that can be represented by ngram changes over time. In this project, we provide an analysis of stories, narratives, and n-grams with the goal of facilitating and properly delimiting further social science and humanistic work.
