Sonic experiences of place in Vermont: Narratives of changing land/soundscapes over time
The project investigates acoustic data patterns and narrative documentation in Vermont soundscapes, looking at how people document, measure, and analyze changing acoustic environments.
Research spans three domains: (1) historical analysis of textual and material documentation describing Vermont’s acoustic-ecological environments from industrialization to present; (2) contemporary acoustic ecology surveys establishing baseline soundscape measurements across rural, suburban, and urban settings; and (3) computational analysis to identify correlations between narrative descriptions and measurable acoustic phenomena in social media and archival texts.
