The SOCKS Team visited the Santa Fe Institute (SFI) to help facilitate a multi-day working group from December 10th to 12th. The working group, "Towards a Data-Driven Science of Stories," was organized by SOCKS co-PIs Peter Dodds, PhD and Juniper Lovato, PhD, University of Vermont Assistant Professor Sam Zhang, PhD, and University of Toronto Assistant Professor Samsun Knight, PhD.
In addition to the two co-PI organizers, SOCKS attendees at the working group included co-PI Chris Danforth, PhD, postdoc Julia Zimmerman, PhD, and graduate research assistant Aviral Chawla.
The working group represented one of the first gatherings of highly interdisciplinary scholars who engage in the computational study of narratives. This meeting allowed researchers from across institutes and disciplines to share ideas and information about narratives and stories in modern society, a key component of the SOCKS project.
