Vermont EPSCoR's summer intern program enjoyed a lesson from guest speaker Danbee "Tauntaun" Kim, PhD, a teacher at the Appalachian Institute for Creative Learning and soon-to-be visiting teaching assistant professor in the biology department at University of Denver. Dr. Kim presented a Neuroscience Primer Workshop to SOCKS undergraduate interns on June 29, 2026. The workshop used Dr. Kim's array of skills to combine storytelling, live drawing, movement, and music in a 150-minute primer on neuroscience.
 
"Telling relevant, engaging, and empowering stories about our brains matters a lot," said Dr. Kim. "I want people to really love and appreciate our marvelous nervous systems, and to remember that they have the most insight into their own minds -- trust what you know about your body, and trust that you can always learn more about it!"
 
Dr. Kim presented as part of the 2026 SOCKS Summer Internship program, which provides 11 undergraduate interns with the opportunity to work with a team of faculty, postdocs, and researchers on the transdisciplinary SOCKS research program. The summer program also offers workshops and presentations to help interns grow their scientific skills.
